Acne Scar Reduction
The microneedle dermaroller has been successfully used for acne scar reduction for a number of years. Generally, a number of sessions are needed for the best results. The skin gradually becomes smoother over time. Some people even report better response to dermaroller therapy than laser treatment.
Long needles are preferred for acne scar treatment. This is because the scarring can be very deep under the skin. The microneedles start to penetrate through the scar tissue that is holding the skin down. New collagen can thus grow through and the skin starts to even out.
The rate of response is very much individual, and the type of scars also has a tremendous effect on response rate. Some people will see results after the first session, others may only see improvement after three. Combination therapy is likely to speed up the rate of response.

Although many people worry about downtime after dermaroller therapy, in reality, there may be little. The redness can be drastically reduced by the use of good quality rollers (such as the FDA-approved MTS dermaroller) plus an intensive anti-redness regime after the treatment. With such a strategy, the worst downtime seen is just a little redness for a couple of days, similar to excessive sun exposure.
