Microneedle Dermaroller
Dermarollers are plastic roller devices with tiny fine needles on the surface. They are rolled over the skin for two main benefits: collagen induction and enhanced product penetration.
Collagen induction therapy refers to the stimulation of collagen production by micro-trauma to the skin. The skin responds by producing new collagen. The nett result is rejuvenation, with an increase in skin thickness, radiance, tightening and scar reduction.
Healthy skin consists of a cornified layer which makes the skin impermeable to harmful substances. This protection also prevents the effective entry of substances that are good for our skin. This means that only a minute fraction of the skincare products applied religiously on a daily basis actually gets absorbed. Microneedling produes micro-channels which allows products to enter very effectively.

There are a number of needle sizes available. Short needle dermarollers tend to be used mainly for product penetration, with some collagen induction benefits. Longer rollers are better for rejuvenation and collagen stimulation. The longest rollers are needed for scar reduction.
Various brands of dermaroller are available, of vastly different prices and quality. Cheaper rollers have thicker needles and can be more traumatic to the skin. The needles also must be perfectly straight and pointed, as hooks can cause skin damage. Quality dermarollers backed with FDA-approval are therefore advised for safety reasons. An example would be the MTS dermaroller.
At Divine MedSpa, the MTS dermaroller is used in a number of treatment regimes:
- Acne Scar Reduction
-
Chi Biorejuvenation
