IPL Photorejuvenation
IPL is commonly used for facial rejuvenation. It stimulates collagen and elastin production in the superficial dermis by targeting haemoglobin as chromophore. There is an improvement in skin texture, tightening of the facial contours, a reduction of wrinkles and fine lines, resulting in a reversal of the signs of ageing.
IPL is one of the most effective ways of skin whitening. Pigmentation is reduced by the destruction of the pigment-contaning melanosomes (melanin is the target chromophore). Freckles, solar keratoses and other pigmented lesions commonly turn darker after treatment before fading away in the following days.
IPL also reduces the redness associated with vascular abnormalities such as broken capillaries, spider veins and rosacea. Haemoglobin absorbs the heat and coagulates the enlarged blood vessels. Multiple sessions are required for best results. Deep veins (blue colour) do not respond as well as superficial veins.
IPL is the treatment of choice when radiance, rejuvenation and skin whitening are the treatment goals. Downtime is minimal, and treatment interval just once a month during the initial phase.
